This medication is primarily used for the treatment of arterial hypertension (high blood pressure). Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, which helps reduce blood pressure and decrease the heart's workload. It can also be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with selected risk factors, as directed by a doctor.

THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS: * MICARDIS (telmisartan) is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. During pregnancy and lactation. In patients with obstructive disease of the bile ducts and severe hepatic failure.

CAUTIONS:

Renovascular hypertension: Risk of severe hypotension and renal insufficiency when patients with bilateral stenosis of renal artery stenosis or artery of a functioning kidney are treated with drugs affecting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.

Renal failure and kidney transplantation: MICARDIS * When given to patients with renal insufficiency is recommended continued monitoring of plasma potassium and creatinine. There is no experience with the drug's use in patients with recent kidney transplant.

Intravascular volume depletion, can occur manifestations symptomatic hypotension, especially after the first dose administration in patients with volume depletion and / or sodium after extensive treatment with diuretics in salt-restricted diets, diarrhea or vomiting. Hyperkalemia: Hyperkalemia may occur during treatment with drugs that affect the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, especially in cases of renal failure and / or heart disease. It is advisable to monitor serum potassium in patients at risk.

Based on experience with drugs affecting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, salt substitutes containing potassium or other drugs that increase potassium levels (heparin, etc.) can lead to an increase in serum potassium levels, so caution should be exercised when administered simultaneously with MICARDIS *.

Hepatic impairment: The drug is eliminated with the bile. In patients with obstructive disease of the bile ducts or liver failure is expected to have decreased their disposal. MICARDIS * should be used with caution in these patients.

Sorbitol: A daily dose of 40 mg of MICARDIS *, which contains 169 mg of sorbitol, or 80 mg to 338 mg, are not suitable for patients with hereditary fructose intolerance.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Oral.

The recommended dose is 40 to 80 mg once a day. Some patients may benefit from a dose of 20 mg. In cases where failure to obtain the expected decline in blood pressure, may be increased to 80 mg a day.

When considering an increase in dosage should be noted that the maximum antihypertensive effect is usually obtained after 4 to 8 weeks after starting treatment.
